What we see people for

Reasons people book this appointment

If what is bothering you is not on this list, call the office. The evaluation covers whatever you come in with.

A woman seated on the grass holding her knee with both hands

Knee osteoarthritis

Wear-related knee pain with stiffness in the morning, aching after activity, or swelling that comes and goes - including advanced wear you may have been told is bone on bone. We evaluate the joint and explain what the imaging and exam actually show.

Knee pain that has not settled

Pain that has persisted through rest, medication, bracing, or physical therapy, and that you would like a specialist opinion on before deciding what comes next.

A man sitting on a footbridge holding his lower leg after a run

Meniscus tears and soft-tissue knee pain

Catching, locking, or pain along the joint line after a meniscus tear, and tendon-related knee pain from overuse. Evaluated in the office with ultrasound where it helps.

A clinician bending a patient’s knee during an examination

Post-injury knee pain

Knee pain following a sports injury, a fall, or a motor-vehicle accident, including cases where you are being asked to decide between treatment options.

How the visit works

What actually happens when you come in

  1. A real evaluation, not a five-minute visit

You are seen by a physician. We take the history, examine the knee, review any imaging you already have, and tell you what we think is generating the pain.

  2. Image-guided injections when they are indicated

When an injection is part of the plan, we use ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance so the medication goes where it is meant to go. Options discussed at the visit include corticosteroid injections and hyaluronic acid gel injections (viscosupplementation).

  3. A plan you agree to before it starts

We explain what each step involves, what it costs under your plan, and what the alternatives are. Nothing is scheduled until you have said yes to it.

Reception at the Millburn office

Before you call

Questions people ask first

What are gel injections for the knee?

Hyaluronic acid injections, also called viscosupplementation or gel shots, place a lubricating fluid into the knee joint. Whether they are appropriate for you is decided at your evaluation, and coverage varies by plan, and we check it before scheduling.

Will I need surgery?

We are not a surgical practice. We evaluate the knee, explain what we find, and treat what is treatable in the office. If a surgical opinion is the right next step, we will say so directly.

Do you take my insurance?

Medicare is accepted. Most other major plans are billed using out-of-network benefits, and not all plans are covered - so we run a free benefits verification before your visit, and you know where you stand before anything is scheduled. Call (973) 382-5002 and we will check your plan.

How soon can I be seen?

Call the office at (973) 382-5002 and we will find the earliest opening that works for you. Requests sent through this page are returned during office hours.

Where is the office?

45 Essex Street, Suite 202, Millburn, NJ 07041. We see patients from Millburn, Short Hills, Maplewood, South Orange, Vauxhall and the surrounding Essex County towns.

Do I need a referral?

That depends on your plan. Some plans require one and some do not. Call the office and we will check your specific plan when we verify your benefits.

Can I talk to someone before booking a visit?

Yes. The office offers a free 10-minute consultation so you can discuss your concerns before your first visit, with no cost and no obligation. Call (973) 382-5002 to set one up.
